KitchenAid KGRS807SSS Architect II 30" Stainless Steel Gas Sealed Burner Range - Convection

DON"T do it!!
Please do your research on KitchenAid products! I have been looking for similar stories online and they are astoundingly common. I am stuck with my range, so all I can do is let others know that you cannot use the self-clean function or you will blow out your stove and have an expensive repair. Most people won't use the self-clean function within the first six months and are then outside of factory warranty. If KitchenAid would step up and recall the defective product, I could feel better about it, but they won't. Here is my story...

I purchased an Architect II series gas range in July 2009. The range is in a home that is inhabited only part time, and has not been used much. In fact, it has probably been used a total of twelve times in two years. The first time that I used the self-clean function, the digital control panel went blank and the oven door remained locked. This occurred after about 1.5 hours of the self-clean cycle. I have researched this issue and discovered...

Horrible Range on every level!
I bought this range in 2009 and hate it. My first primary complaint is that the gas flame NEVER reaches the bottom of the pot. The burner is so low into the top of the range that it is too far away to ever reach. The service technician stated this is a known fact and Kitchen Aid states the range works properly, nothing is wrong. Should a pot of water take 30 minutes to boil? My second primary complaint is that the oven vents what feels like ALL of the hot air inside through the top of the range. It is virtually a 5th burner when the oven is on it is so hot. It is also SOOOO hot that I absolutely cannot bake in the summertime. The service technician admitted the vent seemed to be unusually large but stated he didn't see anything wrong, hence, there is nothing I can do about it. I also had trouble with one back burner that works only sporadically, and of course functions EVERY time the repair man comes. The top grates are simulated cast iron that everything sticks to and cannot...

HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTED
I am a KitchenAid Fan. OK I WAS.

They make THE BEST dishwasher, I also purchased the "Counter Depth" stainless steel fridge because I had to for depth restrictions. It's merely OK. Now the range noted here? BIG DISSAPOINTMENT.

Pros:
- Looks Nice, matches other KA items

Cons
- Should have stainless or removable top under burners. Being black is horrible, I cannot get it cleaned, I have to actually DUST it, it show up so much dust.
- Speaking of cleaning, I tried the wonderful self-clean and yup - ONE HOUR IN BROKE! It is the temperature sensor that keeps the digital display from overheating. Bad, BAD design and nothing you can do about it. Just replace it (I just bypassed mine and wired together). If you self-clean again, you will need to replace it again.
- "Super/Wok" burner is marginal. All the top burners are hard to light, don't know what Einstein put the lighter, then "High"
- It's hard to switch from the super...
